A FREE GUIDE TO HELP YOU ADOPT a safe,
enjoyable DOG.
The Dog Adopter's Advocate
Dog rescue can save a deserving dog's life and unite a family with a wonderful canine companion. My goal is to help the average person adopt a nice, safe dog. I want to empower the public to make educated choices about adopting a dog. Some dog rescues are adopting out difficult dogs with a bite history without telling potential adopters. Learn how to spot these rescues and dogs and take your business elsewhere. Go to our pages about finding a Responsible Rescue and learn how to adopt your dog match on the Adopt a Good Dog page. |

Pro-Rescue and Pro-Adopter
Many dog rescues are pro-dog. Responsible rescues are also pro-adopter. By putting adopter's needs first, and treating adopters like customers, we can improve dog rescue and improve the adopting public's dog adoption experience. Pro-adopter means accurately assessing a dog's behavior and needs so the dog can be matched with an adopter. Adopting out dangerous dogs is a practice that puts people at risk and also degrades the reputation of dog rescues in general. If you are involved in dog rescue, read the improvements we suggest to make rescue more successful. HERE. |
Mission - Rescue Dogs Responsibly, part of Hart to Heart Canine Training LLC, provides resources to guide dog adopters, rescues, shelters, volunteers and foster parents how to choose safe and compatible dogs, match dogs appropriately with adopters, and educate about training and rehabilitation for common struggles encountered with rescue dogs.
A Word About Buying a Dog - Any dog you bring into your family needs careful temperament evaluation, including a puppy from a breeder. I speak to people weekly that bought puppies with house training problems, aggression, anxiety, health and fear issues. Unethical breeders are in business to make money and they will try to sell you a puppy and tell you what you want to hear. Buying a puppy from an unethical breeder only supports their business. If you buy a puppy, please scrutinize the breeder. Visit the mother and the puppies. Any breeder that will not allow you to visit should be heavily scrutinized. Any reputable breeder won't mind you asking lots of questions. Also do not buy a dog bred for serious dog sports, drug detection, hunting, flock guardians, or personal protection unless you are qualified to handle such dogs (most pet owners are not.) There are breeders selling very energetic, protective, and high-drive dogs to pet homes, and this usually results in a lifetime of frustration for the owners and the dog because neither got what they needed. Good information about purchasing a puppy from a breeder can be found online. You can also use the information in this page to select a balanced puppy.
